All About the Gold

Hello crafters!
Today I am showing more Stencil Magic inspiration for our Country View Challenge held in the Facebook  group. This time I have used stencils with foils...

I applied DecoArt Black Gesso as the base for my page. When dry I collaged a printed image (freebie) to this background with DecoArt Decoupage medium.

I then used several stencils (Mini Stencils sets 28,35 and 39 all from Stampers Anonymous/Tim Holtz with Cosmic shimmer Flake and Glitter Glue. This medium allows foils, metallic flakes or glitter to be applied on top, any time after drying, so there is no need to hurry up. Washing the stencils immediately though is strongly recommended....
I used 2 types of foil, Stix2 foils which work with adhesives and Go Press foils which are designed to work with heat (think Hot Foil Plates) but also work with the glue. I used both types because I wanted to have the 2 shades of gold.

I added colour around the gold stencilled areas and to darken or lighten certain "lost" areas of the image, such as the eyes with pencils, water based pens and gel pen (I tried different medias with varying degree of success).

With the foil reflecting light and surrounding colours getting a picture that gives a good idea of what the page looks like in real life has been difficult so here are 2 other photos in different lighting, the first taken with the sun on the page and the second in artificial light at night,

In hindsight I should have painted the back of the image behind the woman with white paint or gesso to get the areas to shine through, whereas with the black Gesso she looks a bit too dark and that's without considering her decidedly morose outlook...
Still, the end result gives a good impression of a centuries old painting, which I'm not unhappy with and I certainly had fun making this project.

To enter the challenge, hop on to our friendly group here and upload your project to the challenge album. You could win the FULL set of newly released Ranger/Tim Holtz® Distress Spritz 😲, yes you hear that right the FULL set... so what are you waiting for!!!

Cold as ice

The Artic weather conditions we had last week in the UK led me to pick up this Polkadoodle image and colour it with alcohol markers.

I do love the look of her, pretty but powerful, she's striding the snow with a determination I did not feel last week!

Wings

I fancied spending some quality time colouring images this week as I find it quite relaxing. Well it's relaxing unless I'm in a hurry!

The image is by Polkadoodles, and represents Octavia washing her wings!
I used alcohol markers and backed the image with a die-cut panel (Tonic Studio Twined Lily Square Die set) matted on navy blue cardstock.

Due to the winter sun the photo is more yellow than it should be and Octavia's wings are much more pink in real life and the grass is greener too...

Keep warm & thanks for coming by,

CAS, Pink and Stitched

Unless you've been living in a cave you must be aware that colouring has become a big thing among the adults and lots of colouring books are now available. Stamplorations has produced their own,  Color Blooms, and are having a blog party where you can link your coloured project.

I downloaded the sample and coloured it with alcohol markers, I chose pinks because it's the only colour I have in several tints (light to dark) and therefore can blend easily.

I cut a Stitched Square out of the piece and stuck it on a card blank that I had previously embossed with another Stitched Square, one size up from the coloured piece.
A sentiment stamped with pink ink finishes this CAS card (Docrafts Gorjuss - Dear Alice).

Textured Flowers box lid

Today I have a larger than usual project to show and it has the honour of appearing on the Rubber Dance blog.

The inspiration for that piece is Trish's Latimer art. If you aren't familiar with her work and images, take a tour on her blog here. In the August edition of Craft Stamper - warning: shameless plug ahead - in which one of my card feature -  one of her designs was available as a digi stamp. [1]

Also on her blog, you can also find a link to a video showing Trish's background building process, which I followed for this project, making it my own with "my" colours and motifs and the foreground scene!

My substrate is a humble box lid but it is canvas size at 28x32 cms (11"x12"1/2) and will be in constant use during my crafting hours as it will hold some of my stash...

Paints:
  • DecoArt: White tinting base, Primary Cyan, Pyrrole Red, Quinacridone Violet
  • Paper Artsy: Yellow Submarine and Nougat Frescos
Stencils:
  • Sequin waste (small and large),
  • Harlequin die-cut -Tim Holtz Mixed Media die set
  • Memory Box Piestra tile die cut .
Rubber Stamps: all by Rubber Dance
Other: Wow Embossing powder in Grape, various lids and credit cards as mark making tools.

If you want more details on how I made this do hop over to the Rubber Dance blog.

Another Cutie

I did warn you... yes this is another cute and digital make! This time I used Octavia - Husky Hugs from Polka Doodles, which is more of a winter image but ...

Once coloured with alcohol pens I simply die-cut it with a rectangle die (Spellbinders) and created a mat out of Kraft Core'dination without sanding, embossing or anything else. Not because I felt lazy, but because it's a rather big image and any embellishment would make the whole thing rather heavy.

I feel cooler already...,

Something different

My blog followers will be taken aback with this one...

1) It's cute
2) It's a digital image
3) The background is part of the  base card and not created by me...

When I say I love all styles, I mean it, and though cute isn't my favourite, what can I say... I fell in love with Polka Doodle's Octavia. Here I have used Octavia Moonfly Wistful but watch out for more images popping right on this very blog...

I coloured her with alcohol pens and actually enjoyed myself tinkering away for what seemed an eternity to get the shades just right... I should say that as I don't have a large selection of pens I sometimes have to mix my colours on the nib.

I have cut the image with a Nellie Snellen die and mounted it on foam pads before sticking to my base, a printed card languishing in my stash, another Lakeland buy from moons ago. [In my defence this was a gift, I always thought buying made-up bases was a cop out].

I hope that my cute digital card won't keep you away!
