Altered Drawer box

Hello crafters, I am back for a second inspiration piece for the Country View Challenge "Pimp It Up" hosted by Evelyn.

I have transformed a Papier mâché drawer box into a Vintage heirloom.

For the background I first applied 2 coats of Gesso followed by a coat DecoArt Buff paint.

To give some texture, I then brushed a layer of crackle texture paste by Prima and, when dry, added a glaze of black paint to highlight the crackles removing almost immediately with a baby wipe.

I now stamped all sides of my box with a number of Rubber Dance images:

Twiggy Leaves set and I love leaves set:

The large branch from Twiggy Leaves:
(This was the most difficult part of the stamping as the drawer front is curved so I had to place the drawer on the rubber stamp and roll it.... no second chances there!)

Vintage Postcard and the Nostalgic Couple:

I have given links to the Country View Crafts shop for those stocked in the shop.

You'll notice the stamping isn't perfect but papier mâché is rarely completely flat so it is to be expected and I think it adds to the Vintage look, as if rubbed off after many years of use!

After stamping I applied a glaze made with DecoArt Burnt Umber acrylic paint and Paper Artsy Matt glaze to age the drawer and finished by rubbing Treasure Gold (Onyxite and White Fire) on all the edges.

Finally I decided I needed a knob to open and close the drawer easily so I made one with embossing powders melted into a Wow! Embossing Powder mould (Tea Rose) and a long fastener (brad). My OH kindly used his drill to make a small hole to push the brad through and fix it on the inside.

Over to you now, if you haven't entered our Country View Challenge you still have 2 weeks to recycle or alter what you desire for the chance to win a £20 voucher to spend on crafty goodies!

Thanks for coming by,
I am entering the Rubber Dance, Rubber Dance Forever, Creative Artiste, We Love To Create, SSS Wednesday Challenge, Craft Stamper TIMI challenges.

  1. This is gorgeous Christine, great choice of stamps, and I love your embossing powder knob. I can never get embossing powder to work in a mould but maybe I used the wrong mould - I tried it with a cat with little ears and a really thin tail, I will try again with a flower one. Have a great day, Sue xx

  11. Hi Christine, just noticed your comment about the 'dirty pour'. I will do a post about it soon but actually we didn't use much paint and could easily have covered a much bigger canvas as we had quite a bit left over some of which I cleaned up with a piece of card and a tag. Looking forward to playing with this technique again. Happy crafting, Angela xxx
