Not a cow

For my entry in the Craft Barn Dictionary challenge I have selected the word Ruminant, and introduce a creature, namely a Giraffe from Rubber Dance, who are having a colour challenge in march.

I stamped the giraffe first, in a mix of colours using water based pens, and masked the image with masking fluid (liquid frisket).

I stamped and embossed in white a texture stamp (the grid stamp is also from Rubber Dance) and then set about colourising with Brushos in Moss green, Leaf Green, Lemon and Orange.

I underlined "white" embossing powder because, having done a test piece, I was reminded how, on some cardstock, the dye from the Brushos sinks deep into the card both vertically (i.e to the back) and horizontally and therefore shows through your nicely clear embossed areas that you thought were protected!

Final touch, as usual, the dictionary definition and the letter, this time die cut (My Favourite Thing).

The fog has disappeared so it's time to enjoy a taste of spring,

Also entering the SSS Wednesday, Stamplorations and Penny Black and more challenges.

  1. The checked grid make a superb background for the regal Giraffe Christine and lovely blends of brusho's.

  2. Gorgeous. Love how the giraffe seems to be sticking her head through the trees and the gorgeous sunset behind. The grid gives a wonderful geometric contrast with the soft organic shapes. You should add it to the Rubber Dance challenge gallery. Hugz

  6. I simply have to have a grid stamp! I love how you worked with that. I hope I can figure out how to Pin this so I can remember this technique. Your whole piece looks fabulous. I think I have heard this word before but I didn't figure out how it related to a giraff...now I know. This is wonderful!

I love how you created the background - so much so that I will have to try the same with my grid stamp and Brushos. Thank you for entering your piece to our March Challenge at Rubber Dance ♥

  20. I have to admit your cute giraffe certainly fits ruminant right down to its four toes. I have never seen or used Brushos because they haven't made a big enough splash in the states for craft stores to carry them. However, if I ever DO get to use some, I won't forget this tip. I'm sure many of my friends who live across the pond will be pleased with this tip. Again, LOVE your entry and your darling ruminant.

  21. I love this one. That is a really excellent grid stamp you have used, before I read your post I thought it was a stencil. It works so well with the giraffe. Lovely work again.
