Tropical heat

Hot, hot, hot... a taste of the tropics!

Welcome to my first July inspiration piece for Crafts U Love. I have chosen to make an interactive card with Karen Burniston Spinner Square Pop-Up Die Set.

Interactive cards always have the wow factor, ideal for special occasion cards. Yes, interactive cards can be intimidating, but with this die-set the hard work is done for you so there is no measuring or cutting to get wrong. It can be used on any size of rectangle or square card base, and the mechanism can be used with any die-cuts or shapes, although the set includes several decorative options to matt and layer the centre piece so can be used stand alone, straight out of the packet.

Once the mechanism piece is cut, it is only a matter of folding along the score lines and then gluing in place. To be sure you are doing it correctly do watch Karen herself explains the construction in detail in this video. I would further advise you to cut the mechanism 3 times, once to get to grasp with it, one for your project and one to have on hand for a future project or in case of mishap (ahem...).

Here's the photos of my mechanism being built:

The next stage is to decorate the card, and there are 3 panels available, although for a simpler card, all that is required is the front and the spinner element. Here I have done all 3.

Letting the professionals do the work I used 2 papers from the same Photoplay collection and a plain pink Bazill cardstock. These papers are double sided so just by using 2 there are 4 different patterns to choose from! I used square dies to cut all my matts, since my base card is also a square.

For the front of the card I used the Bold Blooms - Amanda stamp set by Woodware and first created masks for all the flowers and leaves. On the photo you can see the masks in position just before I stamped the last leaf.

Now for the assembly: I first glued down all the papers and then the mechanism by applying glue on all the tabs marked with X.
The next piece is the one that will swing (or spin), a rectangle I have stamped with the "It's your special day" sentiment from the Phill Martin Sentimentally Yours Essential Sentiments set.

Once this is in place the last bit is the piece of card that will hide the spinning sentiment, in my case a Happy Birthday stamp from the same set.

Some photos of the completed project and a video to show the card in action!
The front panel has been coloured with crayons and I used another sentiment from that really useful sentiment set by Phil Martin (Essential Sentiments). It has all sorts of sentiments for the main occasions and in different styles too, a fantastic year round set to have in your stash.

I reserved the left hand panel for a personal message but if you wanted to use it for more decoration, there's always the back...
